K9Grass Eco installation – KNGF Guide Dogs, Amstelveen

The KNGF Guide Dogs site in Amstelveen is a leading training centre for guide dogs that assist people with visual impairments and children with autism. In March 2026, the entire outdoor area was refurbished with K9Grass Eco, an artificial grass specially developed for intensive use by dogs. 

Our Dutch K9Grass dealer and installer, Hondengras.nl, took on the project and recommended our K9Grass Eco to the client. A solution that perfectly suits the dynamic nature of a professional guide dog training programme. The choice of this specialised artificial grass makes perfect sense; it combines robustness with comfort and unrivalled drainage thanks to its installation on a crushed stone base. These characteristics align seamlessly with the way the KNGF trains its dogs. 

With the installation of K9Grass, the site was visibly transformed. What was once a challenging, high-maintenance surface became a sleek, hygienic and smart training environment where dogs can move freely and trainers can focus entirely on guidance and development. The site now not only feels more modern, but also operates noticeably more efficiently, exactly what a leading institute such as KNGF Guide Dogs needs. 

Construction and Installation

For this project, a stable and well-draining sub-base was constructed, consisting of a sand foundation topped with a layer of crushed stone to provide additional load-bearing capacity and water drainage. This sub-base was finished with a layer of fine crushed stone, creating a level and firm surface. The K9Grass Eco artificial grass top layer was then installed on this levelled, flat sub-base; thanks to its open structure, it works perfectly in conjunction with the substructure. This construction prevents from forming mud, keeps the playing area level and supports the artificial grass’s excellent drainage capacity.
